Orthotics, custom functional foot beds, are created to correct structural irregularities of the lower leg and foot. To make them, the foot is placed into its optimal neutral position, then a plaster cast is molded. The negative cast is then sent to a lab and a carbon fiber or other composite orthotic is returned to the office, usually within ten days. Once you slide the molded appliance into your shoe, it is customized to your needs. Orthotics work in most types of shoes, including running, dress, and cycling ones - even ski boots.

If you have leg length inequality, we can perform a specific x-ray, called an orthoroentgenogram,to obtain leg measurements. The measurement, to the millimeter, determines the degree of true leg length inequality. If needed, a small lift is formed into the orthotic to correct hip imbalance that may be originating from the feet.

Orthotics help to correct the following:

  • arch pain
  • chondromalacia patella (runner’s knee)
  • degenerative disc disease
  • headaches
  • heel pain
  • iliotibial band syndrome
  • jumpers knee
  • knee cap pain
  • low back pain
  • patellar tendonitis
  • plantar fasciitis
  • shin splints
  • stress fractures of the foot and ankle
  • …and many more
